BIO

Jim has quite literally grown up in the business, continuing the legacy of insurance excellence in the Durham Region started by his father, Harold Roughley, back in 1945.

Jim spends the better part of each day serving the needs of his clients, but also keeps his finger on the pulse of the comings and goings of the team in the office. Under Jim’s leadership, the Roughley team has grown in size, but the company has never wavered its focus on providing a level of customer service and care that is unsurpassed in the community.

When he’s not in the office, Jim can be found poolside cheering on his daughter who is a competitive swimmer at the Oshawa Swim Club where he is also the President and has been for the past 4 years. His summer getaway is to his cottage with his family, where you will find him working away on the next project, hitting the water or enjoying a glass of wine.

Being outdoors is Jim’s favourite place to be, outside of the Roughley office, of course. He loves mountain biking and sailing in the warmer months and skiing in the winter months. Throughout the winter, he is known to sneak away Canada’s west coast to ski.

The Durham Region Humane Society is close to Jim’s heart. For 15 years, as the President, Jim, along with colleagues, worked tirelessly to get the Durham Region Humane Society off the ground. Successfully, as the Past President and Founder, Jim is proud of what the Humane Society is today. Notably, he is the Chairman of the Insurance Specialty Group; a group of Insurance Brokers throughout the province of Ontario.

BIO

Grant has enjoyed a long career in the insurance industry, getting his start as an independent insurance adjuster with a national adjusting firm. In 1983, Grant joined the Roughley team and he has been an owner/broker since 1992. If you have come into the Roughley office to meet with Grant, you know that he is always available for his clients.

Grant strives to be a Best-Practice Broker. This means focusing on finding the correct coverage for Roughley clients, while at the same time providing competitive pricing. With over 30 years of experience and knowledge in the insurance industry, Grant has seen first hand how getting the right level of coverage makes all the difference in the event of a claim.

Grant has spent a good part of his life at the hockey rink. He grew up playing the game and continued well into his adult life, he coached his kids into their teenage years and then had the opportunity to watch them play in the OHL. Though he doesn’t play hockey today, he still enjoys staying in shape, it’s not uncommon to find him at the 6am spin class in the morning.

Grant is an avid outdoors man, whether it’s dockside at his cottage appreciating a nice glass of Shiraz, or on his watch when hunting season hits.

Grant is known for his extensive knowledge of history and politics, and there aren’t many who can beat him in a round of music trivia.

Ashley takes big ideas and turns them into a reality at Roughley Insurance. When visiting the office, you can find Ashley working with her team of strong and passionate individuals, fostering an environment where the Roughley family enjoys coming to work. At the forefront of each day she is striving to find new technology and processes that continuously improve the relationship Roughley Insurance has with their clients.

Ashley spends her time planning her next travel adventure or backyard party. These passions pair well with her love for food and wine. She is in her element when sampling local fare on her travels or hitting up all of her favourite local shops creating the perfect meal for family and friends. 

Having the unfortunate first-hand experience being sued after a car accident, Ashley reaches out to any client who has been sued themselves; walking them through the process, calming their nerves and will remain in contact with them throughout the process.

Every Christmas Ashley adopts a family. Along with friends and family, she fundraises and delivers a gift basket to the family each day of December through to Christmas.

As the Bowmanville Branch Manager and a leading Producer at Roughley Insurance, Leanne relishes each day finding the best coverage and value for her clients by applying her years of knowledge and experience. Her success stems from being able to relate and communicate to customers in an understandable and personable fashion.

Leanne makes exercise a priority and a whole family effort with her son guiding as a personal trainer at a local fitness club where she and her husband commit to a regular regime. Also, as an advocate for healthy living she is conscious of her family’s diet and enjoys cooking and preparing meals consisting of organic and local, farm fresh foods. An intrepid traveller and sun worshipper, Leanne embarks on multiple trips each year to tropical destinations around the world with her family and friends. Leanne makes her home in Bowmanville where she enjoys gardening and entertaining.

Leanne considers one of her greatest accomplishments at Roughley Insurance spearheading the expansion of the company into East Durham (Bowmanville) and the completion of the branch’s first successful year of operation with her team. As a prior leader and manager of the Oshawa branch for over 7 years, Leanne is proud to have mentored and advanced others with their careers in the insurance industry. Notably, she is also proud to have guided her daughter, Maddison, into the business where she has found success at one of the leading insurance companies.

It is up to Cassie to make sure that there are efficient procedures in place and that they are being followed by the rest of the team. She takes pride in helping her newer colleagues progress through their career, being a cornerstone in their future success.

Cassie is most proud of how much she’s grown. Starting her career she was really shy and didn’t know where her career would take her but she has found her calling. Her success and her continuous progression are the direct result of the love for what she does. Cassie loves that she is now in a position where people rely on her for advice and information to help them achieve their goals.

Cassie likes to stay active with a range of different activities. Baseball is one of her passions, she plays year round in both indoor and outdoor leagues. She even played a tournament at the Rogers Centre; she didn’t get a chance to do a bat flip but she is definitely looking to in the future! To unwind, she likes to knit or read the latest David Baldacci novel.

Darian works diligently to drive sales of new business. His goal is to introduce Roughley Insurance Brokers to a larger, more diverse clientele in an effort to grow the brand and solidify new and long lasting business relationships between Roughley and the community.

As a business owner, Darian spends his time outside of Roughley at his Muay Thai kickboxing studio. His passion for fitness manifests through several outlets such as Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing and martial arts but not solely for himself. Darian is committed to developing athletes and providing these athletes a safe place to engage their fitness practices.

Darian is most proud of building up his Muay Thai kickboxing studio, Redemption Muay Thai INC, from the ground up. He has successfully created an environment to help steer the young people of our community in a positive direction through fitness and martial arts. It has been a very rewarding way to give back to the community for Darian.

Lisa began her insurance career in 1988 and since she’s joined Roughley she’s been a stand out. Lisa coordinates with other Commercial Producers providing recommendations to companies to ensure that they have the protection they need. She also spends her time answering client inquiries and providing quotes for new prospective clients.

Now that Lisa’s kids are older, her and her husband Sean have started to travel. They have already been to Florida and Cuba and they are soon adding the Dominican Republic to the list. Between visiting different countries she’s busy making magic in the kitchen. She can make you anything from simple cookies to a decadent cheesecake. Her specialty is something she calls Death by Chocolate. You’ll have to come visit Lisa if you want the recipe!

Lisa is most proud of her family. She has been happily married for 25 years (congrats!) and in that time her and husband have raised their son Shane and two daughters Laura and Susan who turned out to be amazing adults. She loves how her children strive to be good people and try to bring happiness to other people’s everyday lives.

Shane has been with Roughley since 2003, and has been an insurance industry professional since 2000. You could say that the insurance industry is in his blood, as Shane’s family has owned and operated an Independent Insurance Brokerage in the GTA for over 15 years.

Day to day, Shane’s priority is to serve the needs of Roughley clients, with a special interest in nurturing new relationships with potential new clients. As Roughley continues to grow and evolve to best serve the needs of its clients, present and future, Shane remains current with industry trends and changes. He is actively pursuing his CAIB designation.

As a busy Father, Shane can always be found in the community at the local hockey arena either coaching his children or playing himself. Shane is a proud Father of 3.

BIO

Cassandra began her insurance career in 1993 at a small brokerage in Lindsay, serving the local community. She then moved to a role working directly for an insurance provider. It didn’t take long for Cassandra to realize the working directly with customers was the best fit for her, which led her to join the Roughley family in 2004.

Working her way up the ladder, she is now a very important member of the sales team. Cassandra can often be seen at Oshawa Chamber events and meetings, supporting members of the Oshawa business community.

The Wildman Family has recently moved to a country property which her children, Ethan and Bailey, are thoroughly enjoying. Bailey also spends her summers at Roughley Insurance as a Summer Student.

Fun fact: Cassandra is the owner and driver of the Roughley wrapped Chevrolet Volt that you may have seen driving around the community!

Jacky works with the Commercial Team at Roughley Insurance.  A close-knit team of six, they support each other 100%. The team recently added their 6th member, of which each member had a hand in his training.

Although Jacky has only been at Roughley and in the insurance industry for five years, her experience and knowledge has grown tremendously. She assists several of Roughley’s Producers with their commercial clients and have come to know Roughley’s clients well.

Jacky is a fitness junky, always trying to achieve her personal best. As a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Specialist, and enjoys coaching and assisting individuals in obtaining a healthy, happy life.

Jacky is at her happiest when she is at the lake with her family and friends, always trying to get someone to run, hike, kayak or walk with her.

Jacky enjoys an active lifestyle competing in many races such as the Spartan, Foam Fest, and marathons often convincing family and friends to sign up as well.

Personally, Jacky is proud of obtaining her Personal Training Certification almost ten years ago.  She is passionate about helping and teaching people how achieve a healthy lifestyle. She is also extremely proud of being a Grandmother to amazing twin girls. They teach Jacky how to love life and not take it too seriously.

Professionally, obtaining her Insurance Broker’s Licence.  After 26 years of working and managing in a retail store Jacky went in a different direction career wise. Scary at first, but she loves her job and the team she works with.

Colette has 26 years experience in the insurance industry and wears two different hats at Roughley Insurance. First, she is Commercial Assistant to owner Grant Musselman. Second, she very proud to be the Commercial Team Leader.  She considers herself the go-to person for the department, handling any challenges the team may encounter. Colette loves both roles and gives 110% each and every day.

Outside of the office, Colette enjoys going to the gym, cheering on the Jays, golfing and travelling. She plans on visiting a new destination every year.

Ashley is an important part of Roughley’s Commercial Team.  Her role as junior account manager provides support to the commercial team. Quoting and remarketing are just a few of her responsibilities.

Ashley is also the in-house IT specialist. In an office of over 35 people, there are bound to be some IT issues, but she keeps all the Roughley systems running smoothly.

Outside of the office Ashley enjoys dirtbiking, exploring the outdoors and using her compound bow. Ashley loves the strength, stability and mindfulness that archery brings.

As a new member at Roughley, Tom assists the commercial team by tracking payments and investigating any payment issues.

Tom recently graduated from the Durham College Multimedia design program, and also attended University of Toronto’s psychology program.

Outside of the office Tom is a multi-talented musician who plays many instruments. Guitar and bass are among his favourites He records his own music and has also played in a number of bands of many different genres.
When Tom isn’t in the recording studio he’s busy trying to understand the inner workings of our universe. He enjoys studying theoretical astrophysics and astronomy in his spare time.

In her downtime, you can find Becky relaxing around a bonfire, boating or snowmobiling. She loves Country music and enjoys the live music experience.

As a proud homeowner at the age of 21, Becky’s home is a gathering place for her friends and family. A place to relax with her boyfriend, and golden retrievers, Turbo and Riley.

With over 30 years experience, Rosemary is one of our valued Account Managers. Her main duty is to make sure that her people understand the ins and outs of their coverage.

Rosemary loves doing anything and everything with her two border collies Port & Starboard. Some of their favourite activities include: going for walks, playing in the yard, or cuddling on the couch!

Rosemary also enjoys the world of baking, cakes, cookies, and roasts. Making fudge is among her favorites. If you want to test your luck drop by our office and Rosemary might have some fudge you can try!

Rosemary completed a 5km walk with her co-workers to fight against breast cancer. It wasn’t easy for her but she powered her way through to reach the finish line. More importantly, she is SUPER proud of her son Daniel! If you ask her, hands down she will say he’s her greatest accomplishment.

Kelley performs many different roles at Roughley’s Bowmanville location. She is the first face you will see when you walk in the door and will be the voice you hear when you give them a call.
Kelley works diligently to make changes as client’s request them so these changes can take affect almost immediately.

Kelley enjoys spending time with her family. They live by the motto “do something new that you have not tried before” and are constantly going places they have never been and starting on new adventures together.
Rainy days may keep her and her family indoors but it is their favourite time to read and watch movies.

Kelley looks to step in and help anyone who may need it, whether at home, at work, in the Cadets program her son attends or with friends. She is always there to lend a helping hand.

Lisa has been a proud member of the Roughley family for 26 years. Calling her an insurance expert is putting it mildly. Lisa’s goal is to make sure you fully understand your policy and all your insurance needs are met.

In her spare time, Lisa is an avid reader. Devouring several books each month, she is also a major contributor to the Roughley Library.

Lisa also co-organizes our Backpacks for Success program. This program provides school supplies for underprivileged children in Durham Region. Lisa donates her own time and money to give back to her community.

Christine brings over 15 years of insurance and customer service experience to Roughley Insurance Brokers. She spends her days ensuring that our Group Insurance Program members have all their questions and concerns looked after.

Most evenings you will find Christine either relaxing at home with her beagle, Cash or out running with her run club. Weekends are for charity events such as the Terry Fox run and CIBC’s Run for the Cure. You may also find her travelling Ontario in search of the next great craft brewery.

Christine is proud of the professional licenses that she has obtained. These licenses include the RIBO, OTL (other than life), and Life. All those nights spent studying paid off.

She has also completed seven half-marathons, three Tough Mudders, and is looking to add to the count.

Susie Sawyer

With 17 years of industry experience and 6 years as part of the Roughley family, Susie works closely with owner Jim Roughley. Welcoming referrals, Susie is an insurance quoting expert and will work with you to get the right coverage at the right price.

Outside of the office, Susie is a hockey Mom, a baseball Mom and a dance Mom! When she finds some rare quiet time, when not cheering her children on in their activities, Susie winds down by knitting and listening to country music. If you didn’t think she was busy enough, add Event Planner to the list.

Personally, Susie loves being a Mom. Her two children are always her priority.
Professionally, Roughley Insurance is her family away from her family. Beginning her career with Roughley as an Account Manager, she then transitioned to Team Leader and now works alongside Jim Roughley.

Corbie works side-by-side with Grant, owner at Roughley, writing new business, analyzing and interpreting the needs of clients while offering the appropriate options, solutions, and resolutions required that is best for that client.

Corbie keeps busy outside of work with gardening, home renovations and decor. She is a soccer and dance mom and being her children’s biggest cheerleader! If she finds time on top of this, she enjoys travelling.

Personally, being a proud mom to 3 children, son- 9, daughter- 8 and daughter -5.
Professionally, Corbie has been a part of the Roughley Team for 11 years and in the Insurance Industry for 14 years.

As a  graduate of the Mohawk College Insurance Program, Matt has been a licensed insurance broker since 2009. Matt worked as an Account Manager at Roughley from 2010-13 where his foundation of customer service was formed.  He then pursued other opportunities within the insurance industry which led him to become an insurance adjuster for a major insurer in Canada. Having kept his relationship with Roughley Insurance, Matt was able to rejoin the Roughley family as the Claims Advocate in 2016.

Matt’s priority is to assist clients with claims and to help guide them through the claims process.  As Roughley continues to grow and evolve, the role of the “Claims Advocate” grows as well. Matt is able to assist our clients outside of regular business hours and offsite, to provide you with the Roughley Advantage.

Matt is an avid golfer and cyclist and is currently pursuing his CAIB designation.  He also volunteers for Feed the Need Durham, Community Care Durham and ran the United Way campaign for Intact Insurance in 2015.

Sheena is responsible for most of the behind the scenes work at Roughley Insurance. She processes policy changes and applications with lightning speed. She plays a pivotal role in our ability to provide clients with the Roughley Advantage.

On weekends you might find Sheena enjoying the great outdoors with her family. They enjoy camping, swimming and relaxing around the fire.

Sheena is also a proud supporter of our Canadian soldiers. In 2016 she started writing Christmas cards to our troops overseas.  Let’s not forget all her fundraising efforts for the Simcoe Hall Settlement House as well.

Debbie works with the Roughley team to keep the office organized and running smoothly. She assists the personal and commercial departments with anything they need.

Debbie is a family woman who spends as much quality time with her husband and three children whenever she can. Summer is their favourite season when they can spend their days at the cottage with a glass of wine in hand. Although winter isn’t Debbie’s favourite time of year, this is when she can let her movie enthusiast out to play. Cuddling on the couch with their family dog, Dakota, and cat, Buddy, make the winter months bearable.

Silvia is one of the first faces you will see when you walk in the door. As one of Roughley’s receptionists she handles a multitude of tasks. She keeps the office organized and ensures that clients are speaking with the right person to suit their needs.

Silvia enjoys travelling to sunny destinations, planning and hosting parties with friends and family, and hosting Stella and Dot Jewelry parties.

Most importantly, spending time with her big, Italian family while enjoying good food and wine is one of her favourite things to do. Silvia is her son’s greatest supporter, cheering on her son’s MFA Academy soccer.

Silvia is proud of her beautiful family and raising two men who are kind, loving, respectful and driven.

Also known as an Insurance Superstar, Donna does a little bit of everything at Roughley. Her favourite part of her job is the variety that her day entails. Just a few of the tasks that Donna tackles each day include processing New Business applications, Accounts Receivable and Payable and working with the financial companies to ensure the behind the scenes insurance work is done efficiently and correctly.

Always wanting to try belly dancing, Donna felt adventurous and began participating in a belly dancing class, wondering why she didn’t start sooner! During Donna’s down time you can find her with a novel in hand or attending a concert.

Personally, Donna is proud of her family, her husband, three children and grandson.
Time spent with her family is Donna’s favourite thing to do whether it’s cheering for their favourite sports team together or planning the next weekend getaway.

As an active volunteer in our community, Donna has worked with the Parent Association at her children’s school, the Oshawa Senior Citizens Centre and with the Ministry & Personnel at a local organization. Donna enjoys giving back to her community that her and her family have lived and thrived in.

Recently, along with co-workers, walking 5km for the “Run/Walk for the Cure”, was a mission that felt so good to complete! Walking for a great cause – this is a memory that Donna will cherish.

Carla has recently moved from our Oshawa location to our ever expanding Bowmanville location.

Acting as the Client Services Coordinator for the Bowmanville team, Carla has her hands full with many behind the scenes tasks to ensure the office runs smoothly.

While speaking on the phone and answering emails, you will often see Carla doing leg raises or squats. Her fitness is one of her priorities and she is proof that “sitting in a chair all day does not mean you can’t incorporate exercise”!

When Carla is not in the office, she spends her time with her family, enjoying her daughter’s singing and husband’s guitar playing.

Eve has been in the insurance industry for over 7 years, providing outstanding customer service. As our Client Services Coordinator, Eve ensures that every client receives excellent service in the most efficient way possible.

Eve is a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, a Certified Eyelash Extension Artist and Eyebrow Micro-Blading Artist. All of her certifications tie in with her passion for helping people feel good about themselves. From customer service to beauty and health, the way you make someone feel can make a lasting impression!

In her downtime, you can find Eve spending time with her dog, Ladybug, or heading out on a scenic ride on her motorcycle.

Sharon has been a strong member of the Roughley family for 27 years. One of the most organized people you will ever meet, Sharon ensures that Roughley is up to date on all accounts payable. Although this may sound like an uneventful job, trust us when we say it is not! Sharon has seen the company grow to over 35 employees and has provided countless clients with excellent service.

Sharon spends as much of her free time as she can with her two grandchildren. When speaking of them, her face lights up! One of the proudest Grandparents you will ever meet, Sharon enjoys taking her granddaughter to the theatre. Her grandson is 1 year old and putting a smile on his face is one of Sharon’s greatest pleasures in life.

Monique is new to the insurance scene, but she is sure to excel. With her she brings warmth, caring and a welcoming personality.

As part of the renewal team, Monique helps ensure that each Roughley client continues to receive the right coverage for the right price.

Depending on the time of year you can find Monique at one of two places. During the warmer seasons up at the cottage going on nature walks with her family, reading or sipping on a glass of wine. During the colder months she’s at the hockey rink cheering on her greatest loves, her two boys.

Caterina is a fresh face at Roughley, but brings 4 years of experience with her. As part of the Roughley renewal team, ensuring our existing clients continue to receive the right coverage at the right price is Caterina’s priority.

One of Caterina’s favourite things outside of work is planning events for birthdays and festive parties. She successfully planned her own wedding for 300 guests and loved doing it! Caterina enjoys spending down time with her daughter and she lives each day balancing work and her family.

BIO

Yvonne joined the Roughley family in 1973 as a customer service representative. In 1979 she left to focus on raising her own family. Yvonne returned in 1985 and has since been handling many of the crucial day-to-day tasks. These tasks include processing payments and bank deposits, and you may get a friendly reminder call from Yvonne if you forget to make your payment.

Outside of the office Yvonne loves to spend time with her six grandchildren. She’s always there cheering them on at their games, award ceremonies and recitals. She wholeheartedly enjoys her special days with her grandchildren; these are the days where she spends one-on-one time with a grandchild doing an activity of their choosing.

She is also an avid reader, enjoying novels by Louise Penney, Lee Child and Diana Gabaldon.
